Kingswood secured their biggest opening day league victory in 15 years as they ran in 12 tries against local neighbours, Cleve II’s, in the opening round of Counties 4 Tribute Gloucestershire South fixtures. The 70-5 win in the derby closely matched the 0-75 away victory over Tredworth back in 2008.
Kingswood made a great start to the game, keeping Cleve within their 22 for the opening 5 minutes, before the visitors were able to clear their lines and exert some pressure of their own. In the post-match analysis after the game, the Kingswood players admitted that they had been too eager to rush things in the opening exchanges, which led to some missed early opportunities, however, as soon as Conor Harper (Sponsored by PKF Francis Clark) went over for Kingswood’s first try just before the 10-minute mark, the nerves settled, and Kingswood went on to dominate the game.
Kingswood secured 12 tries in total, all of which you can sit back and enjoy in our Trylights video. Oli Marsh secured 4 conversions, and debutant, Matt Carwithen, added another.
Final score: Kingswood 70-5 Cleve II.
A huge win for Kingswood and one that really put down a baseline marker for the rest of the season. Congratulations to George Clarke-Dove who was awarded the King of the Week award, sponsored by New Bristol Brewery.
Massive thanks as well to Mark Colton who captured some cracking actions shots.
Next up in the league, Kingswood make the journey over to Bristol Barbarians on Sep 9th. Slightly earlier kick off of 2.00pm.
