Kingswood U7s Maintain Unbeaten Record with Skillful Display

Chris Broome10 Nov 2013 - 20:14

U7 handling skills leave St Marys floundering

The strength-in-depth of the Kingswood U7 squad was put on display on a fine afternoon at St Marys.

18 players made the trip to the away ground, a feat which on its own deserves credit. Quantity counts for nothing however (unless its the score-line), but the U7s showed that they have plenty of quality as well.

With so many players available and with their hosts short themselves, Caspian Broome, Oliver Gabriel, Liam Jones and Joshua Pharo showed great sportsmanship and volunteered to swap shirts.

Three matches in total were played and there are not the words available to describe the pleasure the coaches took as the squad put into practice all they had worked on in previous training sessions and promptly tore the St Marys team apart.

Sam Press refused to disclose what he had eaten for breakfast, as he ran in a total of 10 tries, the opposition unable to cope with his speed and footwork.

Almost every other member of the squad ran in tries at some point or other, testament to the willingness of all the players to support their team mates and to put their (quite frankly amazing) handling skills to good effect.

Special mention goes to the Kingswood debutantes; Jacob Gerrard and Jacob McConville both of whom recorded their first ever scores in Kingswood colours.

Man of the match went to Charlie Cooke for his all-round performance and effort in helping his team-mates.

The final scoreline does not highlight the difference between the sides, aided no doubt by the fact that the 'on loan' Kingswood players scored a significant proportion of the St Mary tries.

Those of you who read these reports regularly will be aware that the U7s have on occasion been let down by their handling skills and vision. Today really showed what this team can do when they get the basics right and work as a team.

Great Effort!
