This week the U12 Athena's travelled to Frampton Cotterell for a rematch and seeking revenge for when the sides met at the start of the season after the Athena's narrowly lost. The Athena's numbers were depleted that afternoon and the consensus was that the girls would have prevailed under different circumstances. With almost the full squad available this week the Athena's were up for the game.

The first half began and the Athena's fronted up physically from the kick off. A powerful run from Summer Currey followed by a trademark, jinking sidestep from Isobelle Hodges saw the ball spill to Macey Fry who finished off a great move……0-1 Athena's.

And then……………….

Try Lily Williams after huge tackle from Summer turning over the ball.
Try Jamie Brown after huge tackle turnover from Sasha Beresford and Isobelle jinking through tackles.
Try Macey after team effort in the rucks.
Try Romilly Langdon after the Athena's spun the ball accurately through the back line.
Try Nyla O'Loughlin after a strong run, breaking tackles from the restarted kick off.
Try Lily after more great back line Athena running and passing through the hands.
Try Jamie after great Athena pressing and more accuracy with ball in hand through the back line.
Try Isobel after a huge ruck clear out and dogged play from Sasha turning the ball over.
Try Ava Westwood after the ball span to her by Shannon O'Loughlin and she broke through several tackles.
Try Izzy Molyneux-Carter after more great passing through the Athena back line.
Try Ava after great team effort, breaking the gain line, passing through the backs and several strong runs.

The first half finished 0-12 to the Athena's and although the score line would suggest how one sided the match was up to this point, the Frampton girls were playing well. They were tenatious at the break down, stealing balls in the rucks and running with power and aggression. The Athena's seemed to have the answer though.

The 2nd half kicked off and the Athena's soon settled in for a scrum. The ball was won against the head and Edie Greenwood span the ball out to Lily who rounded oncoming defenders and scored. The Athena's starting the 2nd half where the 1st finished.

And then…………….

Try Tallulah Lacey after Summer turned the ball over at the break down.
Try Macey after strong running from Sasha beating defenders, setting the ball and securing possession.
Try Lily after more great Athena work in the scrum and a great pass from Edie.
Try Romilly after a the Athena's turned the ball over in the scrum.
Try Macey after solo effort breaking tackles and running the length of the pitch.
Try Lily after a scrum turnover and great pass from Shannon.
Try Jamie after great line break from Nyla and broken tackles.
Try Tallulah after more strong running from Izzy.
A penalty for Frampton resulted in a kick over the top and Frampton chase. And although the Athena's desperately tried to keep the Frampton girls at bay, they scrapped over the line scoring their first of the game.
Try Macey after more great Athena team work, strong running and great handling skills.
A final strong tackle from Summer saw the ball fumble to Lily who needed no excuses to retrieve and run in for the final play of the game.

The 2nd half finished 1 - 11 and the overall scoreline was Frampton 1, Athena's 23.

So many girls had huge games, Sasha made multiple huge tackles, Izzy made some great runs and Isobelle was carving up line breaks for fun. The passing through the hands seemed to be the theme of the game with multiple players capitalising from the great team work. The training input from Coaches Liam and Ellie really shone through.

Special mention to Isobelle who received 'Player of the Week' and Macey who received 'Player of the Game'.

Congratulations Athena's.
