Kingswood Knight’s Under 8’s capped off a fantastic 2022/23 season with a sterling performance at Cheddar Valley Mini’s and Junior’s rugby tournament on Sunday. It was a busy day for the Under 8’s, who split into 2 teams to face Barnes (London), Midsomer Norton, Bridgwater, Wellington, Taunton, Wells, Winscombe, Nailsea and Backwell and the tournament hosts, Cheddar.

Basking in glorious sunshine (Well, enough for Coach Chris to crack out the sun lotion anyway), our Under 8’s gave their all in every game, scoring bags of tries and snatching a ton of tags.

In the post tournament debrief, Coach Kirley said that while Kingswood were slightly hesitant in their first game, after that, it was nothing but spectacular. “After that opening match, we did some fantastic running, some great support play, some brilliant tagging and some cracking passing.”

Coach Chris, who took control of the other Kingswood team in the tournament, echoed Coach Kirley’s assessment of the Under 8’s performance. “When you look at how you guys played today, compared to how you were playing at the beginning of the season, the difference is immense. You should all be really proud of that performance.”

On the sideline, the grown-ups could also see how far the players had come this season. A clear noticeable difference was how the players were no longer having to be reminded by the Coaches to get back in their defensive line. This was now being managed by the players on the pitch themselves, which was brilliant to see.

Player of the Week went to Tobias, for a cracking tournament performance.

And that is it for the season! A huge thank you to all the Coaches, who have given their free time through rain and shine this season, the parents for your encouragement on the sideline and for taxiing our future Kingswood stars all around the Southwest on a Sunday, and finally, all to our amazing Under 8’s Knights. You have made your Coaches and families proud this season. Next stop, Under 9’s!
Please continue to keep an eye on the Socials, as we are planning a few fun meet up sessions over the summer!
