Colts first game of the season at Old B's

Colts first game of the season at Old B's

Derek Golding

And in many, many years.......

For the first time in over 30 years Kingswood RFC fielded a Colts team on Sunday 14th Oct 2018. After a long pre season, due to multiple fixture cancellations from unfortunate opposition that have folded due to poor numbers, the anticipation was immense. The lads needed a game badly and despite the appalling weather conditions, they were buzzing. Storm Callum may have caused road floods and sideways aircraft landings at Lulsgate, but it wasn’t going to stop this game from taking place - the Kingswood boys wouldn’t allow it.
The warm up was controlled, organised and intense - the pre game prep was the best we had seen for a long while. Skipper George Morse and Vice Oli Golding took the reign's and gave a stirring team talk while the lads pulled on their Kingswood jerseys, then, united - out they ran.
The game started very well for Kingswood with some good passages of play that led to an early try. The scrums were strong and the many weeks of lineout practice for new Lock, Jack Bultitude paid off as he won every ball of our own. Bristolians are a very good side and despite being missing a few key players, they still showed great skill - especially from the lad who drove his own car there! As their Colts are a mix of u17 & u18 players the Kingswood lads weren't shocked or rocked by this, but the parents faces were a picture. Old B's came back with a couple of touchdowns, but Kingswood continued to dominate in the pack, the bar of soap being passed around the field caused a few problems when it came to finishing for Kingswood, otherwise the final score would have been a bit different.
The Old B's ref was fair and both teams played a thoroughly enjoyable game in great Rugby spirit. The Kingswood forwards put in a hell of a shift and special mention should go to Scott Morgan on his debut for Kingswood (2 tries), Rhys Bartlett (1 try), Jacob Golding (making a welcome back appearance - 1 try), George Morse (1st Kingswood Colts skipper for over 30 yrs - 1 try), George CD - Man of the Match), Jack Bultitude for leaping like a salmon & safe hands and Oli Golding for his many carries. The whole team deserve accolade for a great performance in difficult conditions.
Final Score. Old B's 51 - Kingswood 27.
Roll on the next game and c'mon you Big K
