The Knights travelled to local side Cleve on Sunday – a rivalry reignited from years past after not playing them for some time. An 18 man squad travelled in good heart to their Cossham Street home. A little bit of extra edge to the game with Josh returning to his former club and Matt trying out some new boots complete with pink laces – hand me downs from a senior player they are big boots to fill! After a period of poor weather and no games it is good to be back on match day….
The conditions were dry and sunny but soft and heavy under foot – school bragging rights were also at stake, as a number of familiar faces on the Cleve team.
The Knights started with real intensity and from the kick off were simply too hot for Cleeve to handle. From the kick off a good take from Josh and a clear out from James and Dan gave some good ball to Mac to feed Harrison. Spike drove forwards making 50 meters before being felled - good support from Dylan and Liam again secured good ball for Billy running an excellent diagonal line from the right to score untouched to the left of the posts. Joe secured the first of a hat-full of conversions from the tee in a near flawless kicking performance.
A great take from Ollie in the deep - the first of many from Ollie on the day in another near flawless performance at full back – made good ground before another good clear out from Josh and Batu to give the Knights good ball on the halfway – Joe and Mac fed the ball to CJ who went on a blistering run to score a second try. Joe converted.
A good tackle from Liam cleared out by Dylan and Josh won the Knights a scrum. A solid scrum – another feature of the day secured very stable ball for a great rocket move from Elliott picking and going from 8 to score a third try. Joe converted.
An excellent tackle from Dylan allowed more possession to be secured – Sam and Mac fed Dan and Liam to go on little drives both securing possession with good long presents, great clear outs from James, Josh and Batu allowed Matt to feed the Spike and Billy who did great offloads to make excellent ground. Matt fed the back line with good ball that Ollie picked up joining the line outside Keyan to score a fourth well worked try.
The final action of a fantastic first half was a back move along the line from Joe to Keyan to CJ to feed Stav on halfway. With Stav stationery on the half way line it looked like the ball would go dead but he went from o to 60 in about two meters and scored a brilliant try. Matt converted.
The half time score was 33-0 with 5 unanswered trys.
The second half started in the same way with great work at the breakdown by Lee and Josh feeding Spike to score a great solo try from a long way out. Joe converted.
A first try from Cleve showed that their heads had not gone down.
Great work from Elliott and Lee at the breakdown and a good run from Bailey resulted in a break to half way. Good work at the breakdown from James allowed Dylan to drive forwards and feed Keyan to wind up his long legs to score the 7th try of the day by the 7th different scorer. Spike converted.
Cleve came back in the last 15 with great resolve but at 47- 5 down it was too little too late and the final score of 47-24 was not flattering with a fantastic all around team performance from the Knights.
Josh was named Man of The Match for a fantastic performance in the loose against his old team.
