Kingwood VS Walcot
Welcome to K’s first home fixture with Walcot. It seems the visitors are short and it’s Paige Prince that volunteers to play for the away side.
K start the game and we apply pressure and get points on the board through Kaira Touray finishing well. K are then caught napping and Walcot surge through to get their first points up. Walcot win the scrum but K steal and Gabrielle Norman breaks to bring the point’s home for K. A couple of good phases from Walcot following an injury to one of their players see K pushed back. Walcot win the scrum but despite fantastic teamwork and tackling from Louise Merrifield in particular Walcot get the ball down in the corner. K fight back immediately with Felicity Jenkins getting the points. The end of the first quarter and this game is very well matched.
Walcot start the stronger in the second period and despite great tackles from Gabrielle Norman and Summer Chick Walcot get the ball over. K push back with a weaving run from Felicity Jenkins who plants the ball for our fourth try of the day. K are then pushed back again and again and failing to secure the ball at the breakdown. Despite playing their hearts out K are losing the contest at the breakdown and its Walcot’s with a more disciplined approach that bring the ball out time and time again. Walcot go on to score three more tries without reply on this quarter before the half time whistle.
Paige Prince returns to K after a good run out for Walcot and its Paige Cornford who opts to play for the visitors. K really up their game to beat this well drilled Walcot side and again its felicity Jenkins that brings home the bacon. Walcot break back immediately and K are looking tired. Some great work at the scrum puts pressure on Walcot and its Paige Woodward that finishes a good move from K. Walcot push back and get another score up ! Will K ever learn ? Great hands and support sees K get more points up and it’s Katie Hodge that finishes the move. Following a Walcot knock on its K’s scrum and with the team supporting well its Kaira Touray that grounds the ball. Again K are caught from the off and Walcot get more points on the board. K fights on from the restart and Katie Hodge drags her tackler over the line with her to get the points. Some great tackling from our girls but Walcot again break through to score.
K find themselves 11 -9 down with last quarter to play but the talk amongst themselves sees them start with a spring in their step. Walcot start and knock the ball on surrendering possession, K make some good ground from the scrum but lose the ball in contact. Walcot get scrum and good pressure from our scrum Half Katie Hodge see us regain possession, the ball pops to Kaira Touray who finishes a great K move. Both teams are fighting so hard but K get the ball out again and it’s Paige Prince that ground the points for us. Walcot restart and win the scrum again good K pressure but Walcot see an opportunity and exploit it for the points. The remainder of the game sees both teams fight so hard ! Some blatant high tackles and deliberate fouls all pulled by the ref shows how good a game he has had. To be honest he’s had a great day. This game is at boiling point but K refuses to buckle under the pressure. Last five minutes, Walcot manage to again breech the K defence and K is up against it. As a spectator you have to face the fact you are not going home with a voice and the wolfpack quickly reduce the support to a strained scream as they close the game out with two tries from Felicity Jenkins and another from Gabrielle Norman, they have done it !! They have broken Walcot in the last five minutes after trailing for most of the game. Great Team work. Great Support and fantastic supporters !!
Man of the match goes to Paige Prince.
Wolf of the day goes to Katie Hodge presented by Rich Marsden.
