On Saturday 24th May 2025, Kingswood Rugby Club was proud to host a truly historic occasion as the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy made a special stop at the Big K as part of its nationwide tour. The visit marked a major milestone for the club and women’s rugby in the region.
To celebrate, Kingswood Athenas – the club’s thriving girls’ section - hosted a T 1 rugby festival, welcoming U12, U14 and U16 girls’ teams from across the local area. The festival created a fantastic atmosphere, full of energy, excitement and pride, with young players getting the chance to see one of rugby’s most prestigious trophies up close.
Speaking on the day, Athena’s Director of Rugby, Liam O’Loughlin, said:
“This was absolutely brilliant for our girls to see the Women’s Rugby World Cup. Let’s hope it inspires them that one day it could be them lifting the trophy.”
The club extends its thanks to RFU Club Developer Leonie Prior, whose support and organisation were instrumental in bringing the trophy to Kingswood RFC as part of the official tour.
It was a morning to remember for all involved — a true celebration of the growth and future of Girls & Women’s rugby.
