League Match

Tetbury Vs Kingswood

Kingswood were away for their first league game of the new year against Tetbury.  The last encounter was an easy win for Kingswood but Tetbury had the home advantage this time round, but could they make it count?

Kingswood made a great start to the game with a lot of possession but with both teams fired up there were a lot of hard tackles on show and Kingswood were reduced to taking 3 points after 8 minutes when Ian Kirley converted after No. 4 pulled down a rolling maul which also earned him 10 minutes in the bin. 0-3

Tetbury then went on the attack and had a good spell of play and were awarded a penalty which No. 18 was unable to convert.  However it was Tetbury that made the first break through on 32 minutes after a well worked rolling maul crashed over the Kingswood line.  No. 18 again failed to convert and Kingswood were 5-3 down.

This seemed to fire Kingswood up and they took possession straight from the restart with a brilliant catch by Alex Green.  Kingswood pressed Tetbury back and were awarded a penalty which Dean Stephens kicked to touch and Kingswood secured the lineout and rolled towards the Tetbury tryline.  The ball made its way out of the maul via Ben Phillips and a series of quick passes allowed Paul Bennett to crash over the line. Ian Kirley converted and Kingswood held a 5-10 lead

Then right on the stroke of half time Kingswood were awarded a scrum 5m from Tetbury's tryline, Liam Stinchcombe stood right on the touchline with drew out the winger and Mark McGarrigle picked up the ball from the back of the scrum and he had an easy run-in through the gap. 5-15

Half Time: Tetbury 5 - 15 Kingswood

Tetbury made a good start to the 2nd half putting Kingswood under some pressure and they were awarded a penalty just 3 minutes in, however No. 18 could not convert.  Their possession continued from the restart but Kingswood defence were tackling hard and looked determined to not let Tetbury cross the whitewash again.

Kingswood then took the game to Tetbury and started to take control.  On 58 minutes Kingswood were awarded a penalty in Tetbury's 22 and it was quickly tapped and a rolling maul was formed which eventually ended with Steve Trevelyan getting the ball down.  Ian Kirley was successful at the conversion and Kingswood now held a comfortable lead. 5-22.

Rich Francis then made way for Jon Bogan.

Kingswood were now in complete control of the game and dominated the ball and despite some good Tetbury resistance they finally made another breakthrough on 80 minutes when Matt Davies spoiled a Tetbury lineout and some quick hands between himself and Mark McGarrigle finally ended with Davies getting the ball down over the line. 27-5

There were several minutes of injury time and there was time for James Dicks and Dan Nicholls to come on, replacing Matt Davies and Mike Oakley respectively.

Kingswood played out the final few minutes in control and wound up comfortable winners.
