Kingswood are staring down the barrel of a tough season unless there is dramatic turnaround in fortunes with injuries and absentees. A Gloucester 1 team since 2010, Kingswood need to come together for the club they love or else face the real possibility of dropping back into Gloucester 2.
If the agonising late defeat to Old Colstonians last week wasn’t bad enough, Kingswood also picked up so many injuries that there were 10 changes for this week’s game against newly promoted Old Cryptians.
Mark Oakley (Shoulder), Joe Jones-Griffiths (Hamstring), Tom Williams (Ribs) & Vice Captain Ashley Honeywell (Pectorial Tear), were all unavailable through injuries picked up in the game. A high number of players were also unavailable through work. The result, an eye watering 80-7 defeat. Kingswood’s points came from Full-Back Dan Harris, who grabbed his 1st try for the club, and Centre Conor Lambert, who slotted home the conversion.
A big thank you to all those players who stepped up when Captain Tomlin came calling in the week.
There is nothing to do now but draw a line under these first 3 results and look towards the rest of the season. We have shown that we are more than capable of holding our own this league, but we need to see a renewed commitment to training and Saturday availability in order to push on and get that important first 'W'.
This starts tomorrow – 6.45pm at training.
Do it for yourselves. Do it for your team-mates and do it for YOUR club.
