Westbury on Severn 14 Kingswood 32

So, the last time we played was 16th Dec 2009. We came close last weekend only to see Tredworth cry-off half hour before kick-off, still, the fitness session we ended up having worked wonders.

Kingswoods return to action was up at Westbury, with a strong line-up allowing us to have people like Steve T, Dave Vince and Goose on the bench. Having moved from the usual 1st team pitch up at Westbury, to the narrower (don't give the backs any running space) pitch next door, we were away.

The first ten minutes were a scrappy affair, with neither side really getting into the flow of anything. I don't what was happening but simple moves, catching the ball and even fielding the high kicks seemed problematic for both teams, yielding plenty of scrums. On this aspect I feel Kingswood had the edge.

First points on the board came to Kingswood with a simple penalty in front of the posts. Westbury then missed two chances themselves.
Got to be honest can't really remember much of the tries. I believe the first one was Mr Kirley, running an inside line and going through a couple of half hearted tackles before scoring. Philips converted 10-0 Kingswood. Philips also got another penalty before the half 13-0 Kingswood.

The second try was Paul Allen pretty much doing the same as the first, 20-0 Kingswood. I think Westbury got a score then, can't remember how it came about but I remember it was in the corner with their centre I think putting a nice touchline kick over the posts, 20-7 Kingswood.

Kingswoods third try was off the back of some dis-jointed rugby from Kingswood. With Westbury threatening to score we were lucky their backs couldn't string too many passes together and Paul Allen was on hand to scoop up a knock-on, the ref then played advantage, for Allen to run around all of Westbury to score. Philips missed this one, 25-7 Kingswood.

Westbury came right back from this try to find themselves on the Kingswood 5m line. From a lineout they faked the front lift, we bought it, their eight/prop (he changed positions a few times), took a 5m throw at the front to crash over. Again, good kick to convert, 25-14 Kingswood.

The final score of the game came to Kingswood with Gareth Pond going over. This one I do remember as Damien Crosswell took a quick penalty, for the ball to recycled and find Gareth on the overlap to score, Philips converted 32-14 to Kingswood. Its so memorable firstly for Ben Philips touchline conversion and secondly Damien being berated for taking the quick penalty and gaining yards.

The rest of the game was then pretty scrappy with it ending 32-14 to Kingswood. Next week we host BAC at home.
