Kingswood came out 21-9 winners in this 3rd versus 4th crunch match, but possession stats would have told a very different story. With Ross-on-Wye dominating the opening scrum exchanges, it was from one such situation that the home side managed to score the opening try of the match. With Kingswood walking backwards, they broke away up the blindside and with some quick exchanges, Scrum-Half, Steve Ridgway, was sent clear to score under the posts. Joe Jones-Griffiths added the extras for a 7-0 lead.
The away side continued to dominate possession and came within metres of drawing level, but when a pass was spilt, Kingswood winger, Scott Bailey, kicked the loose ball clear before re-gathering and running the length of the pitch to grab Kingswood's second try. Again Joe Jones-Griffiths was on hand to secure the easy conversion and Kingswood now held a surprise 14-0 lead.
Ross-on-Wye finally made their possession count by controlling the remainder of the half and eventually reduced Kingswood's lead to just 5 points thanks to 3 successful penalty kicks. 14-9.
The 2nd half was a real dog fight between the two sides, but clever kicking from Kingswood Fly-Half, Joe Jones-Griffiths, started to relieve the pressure and eventually they were able to secure a 3rd try that sealed the victory. Replacement Scrum Half, Harri Richards, was on hand after a 5 metre scrum to power over the line. Joe Jones-Griffiths made it 3 from 3 for a healthy 21-9 victory.
It was a fantastic result for Kingswood and one that saw them move into 2nd in the league.
Next week is the final league game of 2015 as Kingswood travel to top of the table Spartans.
