Flankers As Centres As Kingswood Pull Off Fantastic Win At The Prince of Wales Stadium

Flankers Nick Coe and Mike Wynne formed Kingswood’s Centre partnership as the away team came back from Gloucester with an important 4 points to leapfrog Ross-on-Wye into 3rd spot in Gloucester 2.

With Dean Stephens & Paul Allen unavailable, the challenge was thrown down to Coe and Wynne to play out of position and bolster the Backs at 12 & 13. Crocked Captain, Ashley Honeywell, was forced to put on his boots to provide cover on the bench, and Joe Jones-Griffiths performed a herculean 70 mile car journey to get to the game just 10 minutes before kick-off to start at Fly Half.

The match was a Forwards battle as the atrocious weather conditions made it difficult for both teams to put together any passing phases. Fortunately for Kingswood, their pack was on top form and caused Smiths havoc all afternoon.

Joe McMullen and Gareth Williams grabbed Kingswood’s tries and Joe Jones-Griffiths long journey was made all the more worth it as he knocked over 2 penalties to seal victory for the visitors.

Incredibly Kingswood saw 3 yellow cards in the match, but were still able to hold on for an impressive victory.

Next week Kingswood travel north once again, this time to face the leagues other newcomers, Minchinhampton. The Gloucestershire side only have 1 win to their name this season when they caused an upset by overturning Old Colstonians.
