So the final league game of Kingswood’s historic season was upon us and with it came a tricky away trip to Bream. Sadly, Kingswood were always going to be on the back foot as injuries meant they travelled without Mark Oakley, Dave Tomlin, Dave Vince, Steve Trevelyan, Mike Flook, Ben Phillips, Paul Allen, James Willmott, Anthony Davis, Mark O’Connell, Ian Kirley & Gareth Pond (as well as a few others whose names escape me right now!)
As a result, there were call-ups for a host of players from the 2’s and 3’s and even Matt Phillips was persuaded to have a half which he himself called “a dark day for rugby”
As for the game, it wasn’t particularly fun to watch as Bream ran out comfortable winners as Kingswood battled in vain. Man of the match went to Dean Stephens who tried his heart out for 80 minutes.
So a disappointing end to the season, but with all the injuries it was understandable. Still, an incredible 5th placed finish for a team that was tipped to go straight back down this season and who have showed what we could achieve if we could go the whole season with a little bit more luck in the injury department!
Well done to everyone who has played this season and a big thanks to those who have been called up for debuts and short notice.
Roll on next season!!!
Till then, stay safe and injury free!!!
