Before we start, we must first send our well wishes to our Full-Back, Joe Jones-Griffiths, who remains in hospital in Cheltenham after a horrific internal injury sustained last week up at Painswick. Get well soon buddy…
Now for this weekends fixture. An injury ravished Kingswood finished this game wondering just how they had managed to come away with all 4 points from this Gloucester 1 fixture after a woeful home performance against struggling Aretians.
The away side were stronger in the scrums and rucks and Kingswood did well to even touch the ball in the opening 15 minutes. Some how though, Kingswood scored 1st in the game with their first real attack and Paul Allen was on hand to get the ball down over the line for a converted try. The lead didn't last long however, as Aretians soon equalised and the half time whistle sounded with the home side holding a slender lead at 7-5.
The 2nd half was better from Kingswood, with a lot more possession, but this time, it was poor handling that was holding them back. Aretians took the lead just after the hour mark with a well struck penalty, but relief for Kingswood came thanks to a try from substitute Winger, Steve Ridgway soon after.
By this point, Kingswood were becoming a lot more aggressive in the rucks and with quick ball at nearly every breakdown, Kingswood's Backs ran in a third try five minutes from the end when Mark O'Connell went over in the corner.
Kingswood squandered a good chance for a bonus point try late on, but the home side will just be glad to have finished this game with a victory.
Thanks again to Mrs Flook for the great photos!
Final Score: Kingswood 19-8 Aretians
