The leagues 2nd placed side shocked by the determination of Kingswood

Kingswood pulled of one of the results of the season as the scored a last second try to clinch an incredible victory over visiting Longlevens.

The away side arrived at the Big K with only one defeat under their belts for the season, but Kingswood were confident they could get some points out of the game.

Both teams suffered yellow cards in the first period, firstly Longlevens, who lost a player due to excessive use of the boot and Kingswood lost Prop Damien Crosswell for deliberately not retreating 10 metres at a penalty.

Kingswood were solid in the first half, but despite controlling the majority of the possession, the half finished 0-0.

After all of Kingswood’s hard work in the first half, the home side then went to sleep at the restart and Longlevens ran in a simple try out wide, which was converted.

A Longlevens penalty, plus two from Scrum Half Ben Phillips, brought the scores to 6-10, with the final whistle fast approaching.

But then for the dramatic finale. A fast flowing Backs move found Alex Green out wide and it looked as though he may have grabbed himself a rare try, but there was an excellent cover tackle from the Longlevens defensive line. Kingswood recycled the ball quickly and the ball was fed to the Backs once more, and this time, Paul Allen was on hand to slip through a tackle and dive over the line to secure a dramatic late try. Ben Phillips added the conversion for a 13-10 lead.

The restart was going to be dramatic, with Kingswood only needing to the secure the ball and send it off the park, sadly, the Longlevens restart didn’t even go the required 10 metres and so it wasn’t as dramatic as one would have hoped, but Kingswood didn’t care, because the sweet sound of the referees whistle then tore through the air and with it came a much deserved victory for Kingswood.

A few Longlevens players fell to the floor and it was clear from their faces that they were devastated with how the game finished, but its fair to say that it wasn’t undeserved from Kingswood, who more than matched their opponents throughout the game.

A video will be online shortly and its worth seeing the ending again!

Thanks to everyone who came and watched, the noise at the end was quite something!

Final Score: Kingswood 13 – 10 Longlevens
