Kingswood cruise to comfortable victory over local rivals Whitehall 2's

Something different for you this week, a video match report!

Kingswood’s 1st XV were finally back in action this week as they hosted local rivals Whitehall 2’s.

A gloriously sunny day, much improved from the torrential rain of last weekend, saw a good turn out of supporters on the sideline for this clash.

I could sit here and try and talk you through all the tries and incidents, but as I have them all on camera, I suggest you follow the link below and watch the highlights of the game instead.

There were tries from Nathan Pratt, his first for the 1st XV, Paul Allen and Dean Stephens and also two from Ian Kirley. Former Whitehall player, Ashley Honeywell, also grabbed his first try for the first XV.

With Ben Phillips adding 3 conversions as well, it meant Kingswood secured yet another victory this season.

WHITEHALL MATCH REPORT:

With Kingswood 1st team on a high from gaining promotion from Gloucester 2 and the accolade of Rugby World team of the month for May, it was always going to be difficult for Whitehall 2nds. Kingswood boasted a perma tanned Wales Under 21 international at outside centre (it is not known if he also has a pop star girlfriend and shaves his legs) and a No 8 on loan from National League 2 South side Dings Crusaders. With Ash Burrowes still injured and Luke Casswell sitting on the first team bench, the 2s started with former star fly half Rob Andrew (no, not that Rob Andrew) at inside centre (playing his first game for Whitehall in over 15 years) and fly half prodigy Sam Pearcy at outside centre. With Nathan Pong being the 14th player tried at first team No 10, Chris Rhodes was promoted to the 2nds. After his sin binning last week, Dean Weaver was also dropped, paving the way for a return to full back for DJ. Darren Price was drafted into the first team for his debut. Further good news was the return to the seconds of Marley Gayle, although there was surprise that after his man of the match, try scoring performance for the 1sts last week, that he did not retain his place. Unfortunately Marley was unable to explain why he had been dropped. Sporting a sun tan but no chest hair, Captain Kerr again had a poor toss so Whitehall lined up to receive the kick off. It was collected by Mark Pegram (who has the largest wrist watch know to man), and promptly driven up field. The 2’s then spent the next 15 minutes camped in their hosts half, but were unable to turn the territory into points. Whitehall were playing to their strengths and once Kingswood got their hands on the ball, they spun it out to their backs, who romped up field for a score. A similar thing happened on three other occasions during the half and it was just like deja vue all over again. The half ended with Kingswood 1st XV 22 – 0 to the good. After a rousing half time team talk from Captain Kerr (who was 11 years old the last time he had more hair on his head than his chest), the 2’s started the second half in a better frame of mind and it was not long before Whitehall set up a ruck deep in enemy territory. Andy Watts (who paid his own travel expenses) fed quick ball to Chris Rhodes, who went against his first instinct of kicking and instead ran with the ball. The ball eventually found its way to Big Si Massey, who sprinted over from just inside the Kingswood 22 for his first score of the season. DJ was successful with the kick and the visitors appeared to be back in the game at 22 – 7 and dominating. Unfortunately this was the end of the renascence and the visitors did not trouble the scoreboard again. Kingswood did, and the score finished at 31 – 7. After his decision earlier in the season to step down a couple of levels to return to his home club, Ash Honeywell made his first team debut for Kingswood and rounded it off with a brace. Walt Disney was afraid of mice.
