Only 1 point in it.

The Knights had a second home game in succession, though with much fairer weather this week contributing to some excellent rugby.

Game 1

Ben, George, Finlay, Ryan K, Alfred, Olly (subs – Cameron and Jack W)

Ben and Ryan K were involved in build-up for the first try, Olly going over for the point. Kingswood then settled into a good defensive posture that would continue throughout this half, with some excellent committed tagging making Broadplain work for every point. Finlay made a solid run forward, and then picked out a pass to Olly in loads of space. Olly was over again soon after, this time Ryan K with the assist. There was another spell of notably solid defence from the Knights, before a good passing move, from Finlay to Ryan K to Alfred and finally to Ben for the try. But the Knights trailed 4-6 at half-time.

Cameron and Jack came on for the second period. Finlay fed Ben for the first score, and then started the move for the second try, with Cameron involved also for Jack to score. After conceding possession, Kingswood worked hard to get the ball back and did so, keeping their line and forcing Broadplain into touch. Jack and Ben then combined to get the ball up the pitch, and Alfred was over for a try. Ryan K joined the action again. Kingswood were expertly moving the ball wide, and quickly, passing even before they were tagged, making space for Olly, and he scored the last four tries of the match. Unfortunately, the Knight’s were down 11-13 at the final whistle.

Game 2

Ben, Ryan K, Jack, Cameron, George, Finlay (subs – Olly and Alfred)

Finlay and Cameron got Kingswood going forward, Ben completing the move for try number one. Ryan then made a solid run into Broadplain territory, Ben on hand to snatch-up the ball when it got loose and get it over the line. Jack then set Finlay away on a cracking, line-hugging run which ended with a try in the right corner. Ben and Jack then set-up Ryan K, who returned the favour, with a first class pass into Ben who made sure of the score. Ben then set Finlay away for the final score of the half – 6-7 at the interval.

Olly and Alfred re-entered proceedings, and Olly continued where he left off with two tries, ably assisted by Ryan K, Jack and Alfred. Ryan K then fed the ball to Alfred who made a super run for the next score. Finlay then made a storming run, nearly making it all the way himself but making sure of the try with a pin-point pass to Olly. Ryan K then found a great angle, cutting through the visitor’s defence like a knife through butter, and over. The last word would be Olly’s though, the penultimate try finding him held-up just short, but with Finlay in close support to score, and the final try a typical jinking run into the corner. That made the final score 13-13, highly unfortunate as Knight’s pressing had seen Broadplain spill the ball on three occasions in the second period, but Kingswood were unable to steal possession.

A well earned player of the day award for Olly, with 11 tries to his name – but this was not an individual performance. He played for the team, with some great tagging and support play, and the team played for him, keeping a line and working the ball well out wide for him to do his stuff.

Thanks to Nick for another great report. Apologies that the other 2 games aren't covered. With the games running at the same time it wasn't possible to do the report and get the photos.
