Another close victory for the Knights.

Game 1 – Olly, Finlay, Alfred, Olivia, Jack F, Will

Some new rules for our young knights to get their heads around, but KW started brightly, gaining the ball from good defensive work, and Jack F burst away but was held just short of the line. So it fell to Finlay to get the Knights going, with a fine try after a run down the right wing. Another good run from Finlay found Olly in close support and him over, but not enough to level the scores before half-time – 3-2. Lily, Zane C and Louie came on for the second period. Good work from Will set-up Olly for a mazy run, and his second try. He and Zane C then did some good defensive work before combining, with help from Lily, for the next Kingswood try and Olly’s hat-trick. Fin fed Olly for another try before the end, but this first game ended up with the home team victorious – 8-6.

Game 2 - Ben, James, George, Ryan C, Sadie-May

A good passing move involving Ben and James saw George over for the first of this match; George was then involved in some good defensive play and then was over for his second – this time from a move started with a storming run from Sadie-May, with support again from Ben and James. Ben then combined with James again and registered a score himself, then started a move involving Ryan C and Sadie-May which saw James over. 3-4 to the Knights’ advantage at the interval. Zane V, Charlie, Jacob, Ryan K and Ethan joined James for the second half. A good team effort, Jacob to James to Ethan to Zane V was stopped just short. James went over from the next restart with a super solo effort. North Bristol failed to ground the ball, and Kingswood hit on the break through Ethan, but his epic pace took him over the dead-ball line before he could ground it – no try! He soon rectified that though, and scored with an assist from James. With time running out, Jacob made some vital contributions, setting up two tries for James, the first after a particularly fine, jinking, tackle dodging run. 8-8 the final score of this one.

Game 3 – Zane C, Alfred, Olly, Olivia, Will, Finlay

Zane C, found Alfred, who popped it to Olly for the first score here. Alfred then did some brave defending, pushing out their pacey winger to snuff out that threat and win the ball. Zane C did good work to get on the end of the following Knights’ play, and score his first in Kingswood colours, and then was over for his second after good work from Olivia and Alfred. Will finished the half with an amazing run to take Kingswood into the change-over ahead at 2-4. Lily, Jack F and Luis came into the fray for the second half. Olivia fed Olly for the next score. Good Kingswood defence followed, Lily doing some good tagging work, allowing Olly and Olivia to combine again, this time Miss Bromiley dancing down the line to score. Lily then made a cracking run and was unlucky to be held up just short of the line. Not disheartened, she was straight back into the fray competing for a loose ball, and helping the Knights to their first win of the day, 4-6 this one ended.

Game 4 – Sadie-May, George, Ben, Ryan C, Zane V, James

With the scores all square, this game would be the decider, and Sadie-May showed the opposition what we’re made of – carrying on after a knock, she started a move that saw Ben feed James for Kingswood’s first try of this game. A good run from Zane V found Ben in close support and over himself, before Ryan Cox made a muscular run straight through the blue and red hoops of the home side. James then supplied Sadie-May to ensure honours were even at the break – 4-4, and we’d have a nail-biting conclusion. Charlie, Ryan K, Ethan and Jacob came into the action. Ryan C and James combined for the next Knights score, before a fine solo try from James. Ethan then scored after a super solo run himself, excellent sidesteps showing North Bristol’s defence a clean pair of heels. Charlie and James then set-up Ryan K and edge the Knights into the lead. North Bristol then equalised to make it eight a piece but, fittingly, Ryan Cox found James, our player of the day, to see him over for the final score of the day. 8-9 to the visiting Knights in this game.

Final score for the day; North Bristol 28-29 Kingswood.

Thanks to Nick Hackett for another great report.
