U8's continue good form with win at St Marys

Once again, Kingswood U8s showed off their depth of talent within the team as they put on an almost perfect team performance to beat St Marys.

Over the space of four games, the knights were able to once again display some wonderful flowing rugby of a standard well beyond what can be expected of their age.

Kingswood were virtually unchanged from the side that beat Wells in the last match and the consistency in team selection has begun to show promising results, as the players get used to playing off of each other.

In attack, the knights were as effective as always, with nearly every member of the team scoring tries throughout the match. Particular praise goes to Drew Lewis, Callum Ball and Joe Howard for their killer instinct with ball in hand, between them accounting for over twenty tries.

The real story of the match however was the speed and tempo of Kingswood's play. In previous matches, the knights have struggled at times to breakdown opponents due to slow ball following tags. This had been something the team had been working on in training with the players practising running onto the ball at pace. The results were obvious to see and it was a real pleasure to see so many players putting their training into practice.

Defensively, Kingswood were superb. More than once, the Knights were able to get the ball back after tacking the necessary 7 tags to force a turnover. Sometimes it didn't even require that, as the pressure on St Marys became too much to handle, forcing them to make mistakes. Libby Galloway managed to harass the opposition to such a degree that by the end of the match they were running twenty meters backwards just to get away from her.

There was not a single Kingswood player who didn't give their all today: each and every one played amazingly.

Man of the match (x2) went to Drew Lewis and Callum Ball. In truth, both players are candidates for the award every week, as it is rare for either of them to not put on an inspired performance. Today however, both were simply superb in all aspects of the game. Well done to both.
