 Kingswood 3's Vs Broad Plain 2's

On the back of a 99 - 0 bashing to St Bernadette's the previous week, the 3rd's had everything to play for in their friendly fixture with Broad Plain 2nd's. The 3rds came out strong right from the off with good early pressure, unfortunately though it did not lead to a score.  Carl Smith was on top form taking his own lineouts and also spoiling the oppositions. Defensively the 3rds were still a bit patchy missing first time tackles and losing yards. The defence held out until 25 minutes when Broad Plain crossed the line to open up the scoring. 0 - 5

From the restart the 3rds were straight back into it with good pressure securing a turn over. Good strong running from the backs and persistence in the opponents half secured a Kingswood a penalty. It was to be the last play of the half and 30 metres out. With no time to take a lineout, Steve Gaines stepped up to take the penalty. With a good solid strike of the ball it sailed through the middle of the uprights to make the half time score 3-5

Half Time: Kingswood 3 - 5 Broad Plain

Half time substitutions saw John Marshall's debut to the game and also the addition of Nick Cox. Both put in sterling performances in attack and defence especially considering this was Johns first competitive game of rugby in his life. Broad Plain started well with a lot of early pressure but the Kingswood defence held strong, with a notable performance from Alex Massey and Mikey Isles. Great play from the backs led to 3 near chances but sticky fingers prevented the score. Finally a good move from the Kingswood backs saw full back Nick Bryant finally cross the line.  With Steve Gaines adding the conversion the score was now Kingswood 10 - 5

Broad Plain weren't going down with out a fight and a great run from their number 7 set up quick ball from the ruck and seen them get a try that was well worked for. Both defences held out well for the last 15 and the game saw no more points and Kingswood had bagged themselves an impressive draw.
