Kingswood 'A' Vs BAC II

With a large majority of Kingswood RFC away for Archie's stag weekend, Kingswood were forced to pull together from all 3 sides to put out a team against BAC 2's this weekend.  A glorious sunny Saturday afternoon meant it was another perfect day for a game of rugby.

Despite Kingswood sneaking in a couple of first-teamers for a run out, it was actually 2nd and 3rd team players that combined well with just 4 minutes gone for the opening Kingswood try.  BAC were awarded a scrum 10m from their own tryline and clearly had an advantage over the mixed Kingswood pack, however the ball ran loose and John Isles was on hand to scoop up the ball and break before passing to Jamie Ryden who's power and speed made great yards before being brought to ground just short of the BAC tryline.  A ruck formed and Bramwell Beecroft picked up the ball and dived over the line to give the game it's first points. 7-0.

On 19 minutes, after a series of Kingswood scrums, the Kingswood forwards edged up the pitch and retained and recycled the ball well which eventually ended with Neil Ward picking up from the ruck and powering over the line.  12-0

26 minutes gone and Kingswood were awarded a scrum 5 metres from BAC's tryline and the backs were released which ended with Steve Trevelyan selling a dummy and running unchallenged over the whitewash. 19-0

33 minutes on the clock and Kingswood added another try through Mark McGarrigle after turning over a BAC scrum and McGarrigle picked the ball up from the back and ran through the BAC defence to grab his first try. 26-0

4 minutes later, BAC were in possession of the ball and sent a long downfield kick which bounced nicely into the Kingswood try area and it looked as though they had scored a perfectly good try but the referee deemed the ball was held up and they were awarded a scrum 5m out.  Despite the disallowed try, BAC put in a solid scrum and No. 9 picked the ball up and ran over in the corner to score their first try. 26-5

4 minutes into injury time, Kingswood had another put-in at the scrum which they secured and John Isles sent the ball to son Mike who sent a pass to Dave Vince who ran a lovely line before passing to Mark McGarrigle who ran all the way and eventually over the BAC tryline. 33-5

Right from the restart, BAC tried a sneaky change in direction from the kick-off but the ball fell into the hands of young winger, Sam Coe, who's age and pace showed as he put in a brilliant solo run to grab Kingswood a try right on half time. 38-5

Half Time:  Kingswood 'A' 38 - 5 BAC 2's

The 2nd half started well for Kingswood when a BAC kick-off didn't go 10 and Kingswood were awarded the scrum.  Kingswood secured the ball and Mark McGarrigle picked-up and set off on a lovely run, delivering a strong defensive hand-off and running the rest of the way to get the ball down under the posts to secure his hat-trick. 45-5

On 52 minutes the game then suddenly went a bit crazy as Kingswood ran in 6 tries in 12 minutes.  The first arrived after a great run by rising star Rob Edwards who's blistering pace made great ground before he was tackled and a ruck formed from which the ball was sent to Steve Trevelyan who broke though. 50-5

Straight from the restart there was an excellent Kingswood break that was largely unchallenged and Mark McGarrigle crossed the line to secure what looked like being his forth try, but instead he passed to Robbie Gunter who gladly touched down under the posts, he also added the two points. 57-5

3 minutes later a Kingswood scrum 5 metres from the BAC try line was secured and sent to the backs and Steve Trevelyan broke through again to grab his 3rd of the game. He too also converted his own try for the extra two points. 64-5

Straight from the restart again, some fast hands in the backs lead to Rob Edwards receiving the ball and he used his pace out wide to run the ball over the line to grab himself a much deserved try, but his conversion attempt was just put wide. 69-5

There was nearly another try when the referee got in on the action, catching a lovely pass from a BAC back and running off with the ball, but he decided to pull it back for a BAC scrum.

The 5th try in the rout came from a long BAC clearance which fell into the hands of the Kingswood backs who spread the ball wide and Adam Morris used the width of the pitch and his pace to run up the wing and escape a few challenges to cross over for his first try.  Morris also added the two points from his conversion. 76-5

The last try in the game came on 64 minutes when Kingswood were awarded a penalty and it was quickly tapped to Jon Bogan who fed Robbie Gunter who then broke through the defence to cross the BAC tryline.  Robbie Gunter placed the ball on the kicking tee but a sneaky Mark McGarrigle ran up and added the two points. 83-5

The referee then decided enough was enough so brought the game to an end.  Both teams then went and basked in the evening sunshine with a few pitches of cider.
